My Adventure

On the 31st October 2009, I set off from my home in Paderborn Germany, to under take the 21 day challenge to "Everest Base Camp" in aide of "Help for Heroes" taking with me a special designed flag, Embroidered with all the names of our "Fallen Heroes" in Afganistan and Iraq, the flag was raised and a small service of Rememberance was held, and the flag was left to fly, at the place the local people call "The place of Memeories" I followed the footsteps of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay to the Base Camp of Everest, the worlds highest mountain

Trekking: up to 9 hours a day, Altitude 2623-5545

My next challenge for 2010, is to have a permanent monument built over looking Everest Base Camp, to honour our Heroes, and to raise as much funds as possible for "Help for Heroes" and " Afghan Heroes" and to fund the building of the monument

please keep checking back for more updates, or if you would like to get involved, and help me fund raise, please contact me at glenblease@yahoo.co.uk

4 days to go, today will be the making of the other side of the flag, can't wait to see this come together, so will be filming it all.
The German TV station, DDR, contacted me yesterday, they would like to interview me and show my journey, on TV, don't like having my picture taken, or being on the radio, don't know what to say as soon as that mike is put in front of me.....and I'm taking a cameraman with me Stephen Pennells, so I wont be saying a word for 3 weeks....no funny comments on that Stu.

The past week has been quite emotional, having had more contact with family members, of our heroes, each have sent me a message for there loved one, to be embroidered onto the flag, I will send them picture of there message when it is complete, and before I leave for Everest.

f@ckin shit war, to those who are sending our troops to war, you want to look into the eyes of a child who has lost his daddy
Didn't sleep much last night, thinking of little Ethan, looking at his daddys name on the flag, I just cant put it together, looking into his sad eyes, he wants his daddy, not his name on a flag, I didn't know Abby and Ethan were there, till I was introduced to them.

Thursday 22 October 2009

Was invited to the cpl's mess today, to display the flag, for the JNCO cadre pass off parade, met Abby Cornish, and her son, her husband Matthew Cornish was killed in Iraq 2006, she showed Ethan his daddy's name on the flag

Tuesday 20 October 2009

Time is running out too quickly, faster than I can get things done, great news Stephen Pennels, will be coming with me, to film the journey of the flag, "IN MEMORY OF OUR FALLEN" so now I will have a record for the families of our Heroes, I just cant stop crying, and now crying again, I have a FB friend request with a lovely message from, Lucy Aldridge, the mum of William Aldridge, killed in Afghanistan on the 10th July 2009, aged 18, so young

Sunday 18 October 2009

wrote to Gordon brown today, hopefully he will read my letter, and take an interest, not in me but the families of our fallen, and help me, will let you know if I get a reply, which would be nice even if it is to say no, better than being ignored.
The flag was displayed at the NAAFI max Gutersloh friday and NAAFI max sennelager Saturday, everyone knew someone on the flag, so sad, quite a mixed reaction, the main one was the shock of the amount of names, we all know it is alot, but to see them all together, into the years, and the amount it has risen each year, a harsh reality check, I want to know, the numbers of those injured, this we don't hear about unless, there is a death.

Thursday 15 October 2009

I will be displaying the flag at Gutersloh NAAFI Max today, not done too bad this week, it's good to see people's reaction, some were unexpected....one guy yesterday, was not happy, with my lot as he put it, meaning Help For Heroes Charity, which was launched during his fund raising, and messed it up, and how it is taking away from other Army charities, he did donate though...but I'm not there for a debate on charities, who deserves what......all charities are worthy causes, I'm wanting us to Remember those who didn't come home, that is why I designed the flag, and will carry it to Everest, in Honour of our Fallen, and to raise the vital funds for our wounded

Wednesday 14 October 2009

kit now orderd, just hope it's sent before the postal strike, flag was displayed today at QDG camp, now watching the England game....did crouch actually touch the ball for that goal?

Tuesday 13 October 2009

2 weeks 2 days to go....were has the time gone, need to get around as many camps and NAAFI's as possible, to raise much needed funds for our injured troops, need to speak to the British legion, for the poppy wreath to lay on Everest, need everything to go smoothly.......but it's not, still so much kit to get, and we will have a postal strike next week...bloody great, and over Christmas.....great news for our troops in Afghanistan, as if life is'nt bad enough for them, letters and parcels from home keep them going, christmas time is when there needed the most

Monday 12 October 2009

Can't beleive, I have less than 3 weeks before I go to Everest, just don't feel ready, there is so much left to do, so much kit to still get, need to order my sleeping bag, before the postal strike, was hoping to have that donated..but no reply, but have had some great response, and great donations of kit, been displaying the flag, it looks fantastic, but very sad, it is not quite finished, there is still names to be added and the sponsor side of the flag to be added, the service sheets to print, the list is still endless, with every one I cross off I add another 4 to do, the picture is of the Memorial flag, "IN MEMORY OF OUR FALLEN" to fly on Everest
