My Adventure

On the 31st October 2009, I set off from my home in Paderborn Germany, to under take the 21 day challenge to "Everest Base Camp" in aide of "Help for Heroes" taking with me a special designed flag, Embroidered with all the names of our "Fallen Heroes" in Afganistan and Iraq, the flag was raised and a small service of Rememberance was held, and the flag was left to fly, at the place the local people call "The place of Memeories" I followed the footsteps of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay to the Base Camp of Everest, the worlds highest mountain

Trekking: up to 9 hours a day, Altitude 2623-5545

My next challenge for 2010, is to have a permanent monument built over looking Everest Base Camp, to honour our Heroes, and to raise as much funds as possible for "Help for Heroes" and " Afghan Heroes" and to fund the building of the monument

please keep checking back for more updates, or if you would like to get involved, and help me fund raise, please contact me at glenblease@yahoo.co.uk

Monday 31 August 2009

just been to see Doris, and the sample of the flag that she has embroidered, IN MEMORY OF OUR FALLEN, over the tri service badge, it is fantastic, so much work is going into the making of the flags, she is doing such a wonderfull job, and I just can't thank her enough for what she is doing for me, the young school girl she has working with her for 2 weeks work experiance, has just complained to the school, as she doesn't want to leave till she has help finish the flag, as she is proud to be helping put it together, the school has given her another month off so she can help finish it, the help I'm getting here in Germany, is fantastic

Sunday 30 August 2009

yesterday, done a 7 hr hike before the long journey home, loads to do today, been up since 4 this morning, mind working overtime as usual, but have got flights book, back to Uk for Brazil end of September and for Everest, now to sort out the flag, hopefully work will begin today, and make my appointment with the German media, see what coverage they are going to do, just hope this all comes together soon, as time is quickly running out.

Another great trek yesterday, up the beast, weather was good, 25,005 steps taken, at this rate, I should be well ahead of the recomended quoter on steps to take each day, so I should be able to sit around for the next couple of years....fat chance of that...can't sit still for 5 minutes, pictures are from yesterdays hike up the Kramerspitz, and signing the book at the top, 5 times I have climed the Beast

Thursday 27 August 2009

18.35 and I'm sat out side the little cafe on camp, they do a lovely iced donut, which I have for breakfast...no chance of loosing weight, did resist today though, looks like a storm is brewing, black clouds appearing over the mountains, not sure if that is a good or bad sign, good if it clears the air for a nice cool day for tomorrows hike, not good if it rains too much on the mountains, just have to wait and see.

Looking at the computor wonderíng why I can't see too good, still have my sun glasses on, (Idiot)..lol.......winds starting to pick up, better get finished and get back to the tent

weather cleared yesterday long enough to hike the wank, but had to get down quick as a storm was coming, not good to be on the mountain.

A lovely sunny morning today, going to have a day of rest to, need all my energy for tomorrows climb the big beast the Kramerspitz 1982 meters, up and across the ridge to the cross, only doing this again as I forgot my video camera the last time...won't forget again...thats for sure....just love a challenge

Tuesday 25 August 2009

Thunder storms all night, starting to clear up a bit now, so just might get up the Wank mountain today, pronounced Vank in German, added a couple of pictures taken from my last training here, one of the mukkefuck cafe, not been in there yet, not quite sure what I might find...lol,

Great hike yesterday from hammersbach up and over the Hollentalklamm, had a quick sandwich about 11, then on to the Hollentalanger haus, bit of a rest for a drink, turned left up to the Knappenhauser, took a right up to the Kreuzeck, another stop for some lovely gulasch soup...yummy, then we headed off back down to Hammersbach a trek that would normaly take me 5 1/2 hrs, but 10 hrs and 31,320 steps later, we finaly made it back, I think my husband and our friend need some more training

Sunday 23 August 2009

Beautifull sunny day, great hike with friends up to the esterberg, were they do a mean breakfast, interveiw arranged for tomorrow with the German media, but will now have to be done over the phone as there up North and I'm in the South of Germany, the filming of the making of the flag will not start till I get back, really don't want to miss that.

Saturday 22 August 2009

Arrived in Garmisch, and it's raining....what a supprise, forcast is better for tomorrow, so hopefully training can begin, now in the irish pup to watch the Man.U game

Friday 21 August 2009

leaving in the early hours of the morning, to start training again in the Bavarian Alps, for 10 days, hope the weather is a bit better this time, this I think is my last mountain training, then back to the gym and cycling for 2 months, with 10 days in Brazil renovating a school at the end of September, this will give me heat training and good work out, as it is like working on a building site, well it is a building site

Thursday 20 August 2009

The flag material has just arrive, all 16m, for 2 flags to be made, one to go to Everest, the other a copy, not sure at the moment were that will go, waiting for a reply back from Nepal, as to were the flag pole will be permanently place, is it at Base Camp, which is a glazier and unsuitable, as I have been informed, or The Holy Place, which is set a day away from base camp, which we also talked about having a special memorial monument made, and Nepal would update each year, need to find a few sponsors to fund the making of the Documentary by Stephen pennells, the cameraman on the filming of Everest ER

Wednesday 19 August 2009

So many loose ends, with one change comes many more things to sort out, hope to get all under controll and get back training at the weekend, Stephen pennells one of the associate producers of the documentary Everest ER, is hoping to come with me to film my journey with the flag, this would be great if we can make this happen, have a record of the memorial service filmed profesionaly, for the family of our fallen, really dont want it looking like some cheap home movie, but first need to find a sponsour or raise enough funds to make this happen....so loads more letters gone out this morning, and loads more still to do.....HELP...LOL

Tuesday 18 August 2009

keep crossing things off my to do list....but each day it gets longer, but loads done, flag material is now ordered and is on its way, hopefully I can get another weeks training in the Bavarian Alps, and try out the solargrilla and powergrilla kindly donated by Powertravell.com, many thanks.

Monday 17 August 2009

quite a busy day today, have another sponsor, work on the flag has begun, but only programed into the computor at the moment, flag material approved, just needs re-ordering, as 2 flags are now going to be made, one for Everest, the other a copy, so hopefully find a home for that one, for families to see, the padre will have the memorial service ready next month, need to practice how to hold the service, this will be hard to do with out crying

Saturday 15 August 2009

spent a good part of today, getting in touch with family members of our fallen, to ask if they would like to write a little message for their loved one for me to have embroidered onto the other side of the memorial flag, the response has been good, and messages are coming back, this is such an emotional journey, but one i'm pleased to be taking....going to try and relax now in the sun and have a bbq

Friday 14 August 2009

So tiered today...still so much to get sorted, flag samples arrived perfect colours, but I think will need a 3rd layer, so the embroidery doesn't show through from each side of the flag

Thursday 13 August 2009

Found a company that has the size material for the flag, just waiting on the samples, things are starting to come together, still need a camerman/woman to do some filming, as I dont want it to look like some cheap home movie

Wednesday 12 August 2009

Great meeting with Doris today, the Germany lady who is sponsoring and embroidering the flag, but also so sad, we both cried, we need alot of tisues for this, now just need to find the material big enough to make the flag, need 2m x 4m one red one blue, so many names....too many lives lost...R.I.P all

when Doris said it was an honour for her to be making the flag, I cried even more, such a lovely woman, that special person is always were you least expect to find them

Tuesday 11 August 2009

Received a cheque today for €300 from The Queens Royal Hussars, many thanks, still waiting on quite a few replies

Sunday 9 August 2009

This has got to be the worst day yet, thunder storms, and rivers running off the mountains, looks like todays hike is cancelled, last day of training before heading back up north tomorrow, as I have a appointment with the company that is making the flag, with my new design, work should begin next week, so if all works out well over the next week, I can get back down to Garmisch, for another weeks training. so much to do, so little time left.
another €250 pledged from Pete, I only went to the Irish pub to watch the footie, €750 raised, thank you Ian and Pete xx
good decision to go the Irish pub to watch the footie..Ian the owner has just pledged €500 for the Memorial flag and H4H Thank you Ian xx
The weather is not looking to good today, rained quite heavy all night, the route I was going to take I think will be quite dangerous, to go alone, so if the weather holds out a bike ride I think today, into Austria, if not then a day off and relax, at the Irish pub, and watch the football

Saturday 8 August 2009

Not feeling too bad after yesterdays hike, the hardest and longest hike yet, sat out side the little cafe admiring the view of the Kramerspitz...will not be doing that again, well not today anyway, 1st picture is of the veiw on the way up, still quite away to go, 2nd is the first part of the ridge after 2 1/2 hrs hiking 3rd is half way across the ridge as the weather started to close in, nearly turned around at this point, 4th is the final climb to the top 5th is the view of the top, on my way down, 2hr later, hard going on the knees, had to use poles for the first time.

Friday 7 August 2009

My morning didn't start off to well, cycled all the way to the bottom of the mountain, forgot my key to bike lock, do I just hide my bike in a bush and hope it's there when I get down or, ride back and get the key, well with the luck I'm having, so rode back and got the key, so lost an hour start....great

Thursday 6 August 2009

Friday 7 August 7.00 am

Training has been going well, most of it done in the rain, but looks like another sunny day, today's hike will be up the Kramerspitz hight 1982m, doesn't look that big in the picture that I have just taken, out side the little cafe were I'm having a quick tea, and update, before setting off,

Wednesday 5 August 2009

Now into the second faze of my training in the Bavarian Alps, and the sun is shinning, pictures are from my hike on Sunday 2nd Aug, picture 3 is view of the Zugspits the highest mountain in Germany, from half way up into the valley, 2nd is same view from higher up, the 1st picture was taken the same day, just as I got back into camp, the weather changed dramatically, and rained till tuesday night.
