My Adventure

On the 31st October 2009, I set off from my home in Paderborn Germany, to under take the 21 day challenge to "Everest Base Camp" in aide of "Help for Heroes" taking with me a special designed flag, Embroidered with all the names of our "Fallen Heroes" in Afganistan and Iraq, the flag was raised and a small service of Rememberance was held, and the flag was left to fly, at the place the local people call "The place of Memeories" I followed the footsteps of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay to the Base Camp of Everest, the worlds highest mountain

Trekking: up to 9 hours a day, Altitude 2623-5545

My next challenge for 2010, is to have a permanent monument built over looking Everest Base Camp, to honour our Heroes, and to raise as much funds as possible for "Help for Heroes" and " Afghan Heroes" and to fund the building of the monument

please keep checking back for more updates, or if you would like to get involved, and help me fund raise, please contact me at glenblease@yahoo.co.uk

Tuesday 22 December 2009

Finaly I can catch up with my updates, after being away for 6 weeks.
The flag is now flying at the Holy place, known as the "The place of Memories" by the local people, now there is 402 special memories flying there.

The flag was raised and the service held on the 11,11,09 Rememberance day, it was a very emotional service, and I found it quite hard to do with out chocking back the tears, 3 sherpas also laid 3 crosses in memory of the 3 Gurhka soldiers, named on the flag. pictures of the flag, and my first view of Mount Everest

Friday 30 October 2009

The Flag "IN MEMORY OF OUR FALLEN" is now on it's way to Mount Everest, RIP all 402 heroes named on the flag xxx thank you all for all the lovely messages of support xx
today has been a very special day starting with the service and the blessing at the church in Paderborn, and a get together in the afternoon with everyone involved in the making of the flag, what a great send off.....many tears shed by everyone today...thank you so much Paderborn xxx

Thursday 29 October 2009

The flag In "MEMORY OF OUR FALLEN" will hang in the German church tonight in Paderborn, as they are holding a small ceramony tomorrow 10 am, to Bless the flag and all named upon it, for it's journey to Everest, a tribute from the German people of Paderborn, this means so much to me, THANK YOU PADERBORN XX

Monday 26 October 2009

4 days to go, today will be the making of the other side of the flag, can't wait to see this come together, so will be filming it all.
The German TV station, DDR, contacted me yesterday, they would like to interview me and show my journey, on TV, don't like having my picture taken, or being on the radio, don't know what to say as soon as that mike is put in front of me.....and I'm taking a cameraman with me Stephen Pennells, so I wont be saying a word for 3 weeks....no funny comments on that Stu.

The past week has been quite emotional, having had more contact with family members, of our heroes, each have sent me a message for there loved one, to be embroidered onto the flag, I will send them picture of there message when it is complete, and before I leave for Everest.

Sunday 25 October 2009

Went to meet Satus Quo last night in Dusseldorf, great guys, had a good chat with John Edwards, and a great performance, cant wait to meet them again

Friday 23 October 2009

f@ckin shit war, to those who are sending our troops to war, you want to look into the eyes of a child who has lost his daddy
Didn't sleep much last night, thinking of little Ethan, looking at his daddys name on the flag, I just cant put it together, looking into his sad eyes, he wants his daddy, not his name on a flag, I didn't know Abby and Ethan were there, till I was introduced to them.

Thursday 22 October 2009

Was invited to the cpl's mess today, to display the flag, for the JNCO cadre pass off parade, met Abby Cornish, and her son, her husband Matthew Cornish was killed in Iraq 2006, she showed Ethan his daddy's name on the flag

Tuesday 20 October 2009

Time is running out too quickly, faster than I can get things done, great news Stephen Pennels, will be coming with me, to film the journey of the flag, "IN MEMORY OF OUR FALLEN" so now I will have a record for the families of our Heroes, I just cant stop crying, and now crying again, I have a FB friend request with a lovely message from, Lucy Aldridge, the mum of William Aldridge, killed in Afghanistan on the 10th July 2009, aged 18, so young

Sunday 18 October 2009

wrote to Gordon brown today, hopefully he will read my letter, and take an interest, not in me but the families of our fallen, and help me, will let you know if I get a reply, which would be nice even if it is to say no, better than being ignored.
The flag was displayed at the NAAFI max Gutersloh friday and NAAFI max sennelager Saturday, everyone knew someone on the flag, so sad, quite a mixed reaction, the main one was the shock of the amount of names, we all know it is alot, but to see them all together, into the years, and the amount it has risen each year, a harsh reality check, I want to know, the numbers of those injured, this we don't hear about unless, there is a death.

Thursday 15 October 2009

I will be displaying the flag at Gutersloh NAAFI Max today, not done too bad this week, it's good to see people's reaction, some were unexpected....one guy yesterday, was not happy, with my lot as he put it, meaning Help For Heroes Charity, which was launched during his fund raising, and messed it up, and how it is taking away from other Army charities, he did donate though...but I'm not there for a debate on charities, who deserves what......all charities are worthy causes, I'm wanting us to Remember those who didn't come home, that is why I designed the flag, and will carry it to Everest, in Honour of our Fallen, and to raise the vital funds for our wounded

Wednesday 14 October 2009

kit now orderd, just hope it's sent before the postal strike, flag was displayed today at QDG camp, now watching the England game....did crouch actually touch the ball for that goal?

Tuesday 13 October 2009

2 weeks 2 days to go....were has the time gone, need to get around as many camps and NAAFI's as possible, to raise much needed funds for our injured troops, need to speak to the British legion, for the poppy wreath to lay on Everest, need everything to go smoothly.......but it's not, still so much kit to get, and we will have a postal strike next week...bloody great, and over Christmas.....great news for our troops in Afghanistan, as if life is'nt bad enough for them, letters and parcels from home keep them going, christmas time is when there needed the most

Monday 12 October 2009

Can't beleive, I have less than 3 weeks before I go to Everest, just don't feel ready, there is so much left to do, so much kit to still get, need to order my sleeping bag, before the postal strike, was hoping to have that donated..but no reply, but have had some great response, and great donations of kit, been displaying the flag, it looks fantastic, but very sad, it is not quite finished, there is still names to be added and the sponsor side of the flag to be added, the service sheets to print, the list is still endless, with every one I cross off I add another 4 to do, the picture is of the Memorial flag, "IN MEMORY OF OUR FALLEN" to fly on Everest

Friday 9 October 2009

Now back from Brazil, another fantastic trip, and many new friends made, the school looks fantastic, everyone worked so hard, in extreme heat, the whole experience was brilliant.
Looking forward to next years trip

Friday 25 September 2009

All packed and ready for my trip to Brazil, to renovate my 7th school, so looking forward to it.....be back in 12 days time....then 3 weeks left to get ready for Everest, the flag should be ready for me to display around the camps and hopefully raise loads of money for "Help for Heroes" Thank you so much to all that have donated

Thursday 24 September 2009

Filmed the last names going on the flag, last night, this is such an emotional journey, and receiving so many messages, wishing me good luck...still so much to sort out, not got all my kit yet, most of today will be spent getting ready for Brazil, going to renovate another school, I leave tomorrow, for the UK, and fly out to Brazil Sunday for 10 days, which will leave me 3 weeks when I get back, to prepare for Everest, but first, got to get ready, for another Interview, with the German media.

Wednesday 23 September 2009

At last I have my Internet back on......been filming for the past 2 weeks, all the names being embroidered onto the flag, so much work and time has gone into putting the flag together, thanks to Doris and her husband of Dorethia designs, who have been working till late in the evenings, with out them this would not be possible, it is very sad filming the names, as each has left such a big gap in many lives.

Watched a documentary last night on the BBC "wounded" about 2 young soldiers road to recovery, after horrific injuries, sustained in Afghanistan, one had lost both legs and his left arm, the other both his legs and eye sight, there attituide, strength, and determination, was amazing, just goes to show what our soldiers are made off, and that is just 2, of how many....I don't know, we don't have the numbers of our wounded, only lives lost, and that is bad enough

Tuesday 22 September 2009

No bloody internet for a week now, still not fixed
anyway, been busy for the past week filming the making of the flags, which we hope will be finished by the end of this week, had a interveiw with German media on friday, lots of pictures taken of the flag, and will be in all the main German papers this week, and also in the Stars and Stripes, the American paper, still trying to raise the funds for Stephen Pennels and Phil Coombes, to come and film at Everest, this will be great if I can achieve this, so the families will have a record, but it is not made easy, by certain people, but thats life.

Tuesday 15 September 2009

Been very tierd the last couple of days after the weekend hikes, just had a very emotional meeting with the Padre, going through the Rememberance service, for our Fallen, to be held on Everest, first names were embroidered on the flag last night, will be filming every night till the flag is finished, R.I.P all our Heroes

I really do hope I can get through doing the service with out breaking down, couldn't stop crying with the padre, I was quite an emotional wreck, the words of the service are very powerfull.

Saturday 12 September 2009

Thursday 10 September 2009

The internet was down all day yesterday, what a pain, the 2nd "flag In Memory Of Our Fallen" started being embroidered last night, filmed for 3 hrs, the names of our Heroes, will start to be embroidered on Monday, and I will film it all, this is so emotional, watching the flag being made, both flags will come to Everest with me, and one will return, for the families of our fallen, just need to find some were to house the flag.
now going to start packing for a weekend training in the Baverian Alps...better not rain...last mountain training before I go to Everest.

Wednesday 9 September 2009

totaly exhausted today....no bike ride or gym.....just got no energy...I need sleeeeep, the second flag will be started tomorrow, hope to set up the camera for continuous filming, of the flag being embroidered, still not got my passport back, sent it off for my visa for Nepal....getting a bit worried as I need it for Brazil, in just over 2 weeks time

Tuesday 8 September 2009

Not stopped running around, but don't feel like I have acheived anything, these last few days, did 22 km bike ride yesterday, and an hour beasting in the gym by the pti, today is the day the flag is started, very happy, at last, also very sad for what it represents, so will be filming, later on today, very tierd, been awake since 2 am, waking up earlier each day, going to bed later doesn't work either.

Saturday 5 September 2009

another early morning up since 4.30 am...it's the weekend, should be just coming in at this time, from a good night out, a long day ahead.
Need to sort out my kit today for Brazil, off in 3 weeks time to help renovate my 4th school there, with the Bobby Moore fund, still haven't got all my essentials for Everest..still so much to sort out......somebody stop time please...need to catch up
50 kg of change collected..weighed it because I couldn't be botherd to count it....will let the machine at the bank do that on Monday...and €100 in notes....thank you all
off to Hameln, Herford, Bielefeld, Gutersloh, to empty H4H collection boxes, thanx to every one who puts there change in, especially Paderborn Garrison, and all at Detmold, loads of driving, but all worth it, might get to see my friend as she has just been posted to Gutersloh

Friday 4 September 2009

My legs are starting to feel a bit redundant having no mountains to climb....Paderborn is just so flat, but will hopefully get back to Bavaria, next weekend, get 2 more hikes, weather permiting, frustrating morning, can't get hold of units for a higher resolution on there capbadges, need these urgently, as flag is getting started next week, had some good sponsors this week, hate the weekends at the moment, just cant get anything done with the units

Wednesday 2 September 2009

awake again at 3.30am another night of hardly any sleep, may as well get some letters written, especialy the one I need to write to NAAFI......you never know, they just might send me a answer this time
good interveiw today with Mark from the stars & stripes the American newspaper, another chq for €200, 9/12 lancers, and sponsorship from Bikes Direct in Paderborn, a very good day, a big Thank you, to you all, now to finish the letters I need to send out,

Tuesday 1 September 2009

Done some filming with Doris today, on how the flag will be done on the machines, have another sample of the flag, some of the names embroidered, very sad, the flag will look amazing, Our Fallen need to be remembered, but still need to raise loads more money

Monday 31 August 2009

just been to see Doris, and the sample of the flag that she has embroidered, IN MEMORY OF OUR FALLEN, over the tri service badge, it is fantastic, so much work is going into the making of the flags, she is doing such a wonderfull job, and I just can't thank her enough for what she is doing for me, the young school girl she has working with her for 2 weeks work experiance, has just complained to the school, as she doesn't want to leave till she has help finish the flag, as she is proud to be helping put it together, the school has given her another month off so she can help finish it, the help I'm getting here in Germany, is fantastic

Sunday 30 August 2009

yesterday, done a 7 hr hike before the long journey home, loads to do today, been up since 4 this morning, mind working overtime as usual, but have got flights book, back to Uk for Brazil end of September and for Everest, now to sort out the flag, hopefully work will begin today, and make my appointment with the German media, see what coverage they are going to do, just hope this all comes together soon, as time is quickly running out.

Saturday 29 August 2009

Another great trek yesterday, up the beast, weather was good, 25,005 steps taken, at this rate, I should be well ahead of the recomended quoter on steps to take each day, so I should be able to sit around for the next couple of years....fat chance of that...can't sit still for 5 minutes, pictures are from yesterdays hike up the Kramerspitz, and signing the book at the top, 5 times I have climed the Beast

Thursday 27 August 2009

18.35 and I'm sat out side the little cafe on camp, they do a lovely iced donut, which I have for breakfast...no chance of loosing weight, did resist today though, looks like a storm is brewing, black clouds appearing over the mountains, not sure if that is a good or bad sign, good if it clears the air for a nice cool day for tomorrows hike, not good if it rains too much on the mountains, just have to wait and see.

Looking at the computor wonderíng why I can't see too good, still have my sun glasses on, (Idiot)..lol.......winds starting to pick up, better get finished and get back to the tent

weather cleared yesterday long enough to hike the wank, but had to get down quick as a storm was coming, not good to be on the mountain.

A lovely sunny morning today, going to have a day of rest to, need all my energy for tomorrows climb the big beast the Kramerspitz 1982 meters, up and across the ridge to the cross, only doing this again as I forgot my video camera the last time...won't forget again...thats for sure....just love a challenge

Tuesday 25 August 2009

Thunder storms all night, starting to clear up a bit now, so just might get up the Wank mountain today, pronounced Vank in German, added a couple of pictures taken from my last training here, one of the mukkefuck cafe, not been in there yet, not quite sure what I might find...lol,

Great hike yesterday from hammersbach up and over the Hollentalklamm, had a quick sandwich about 11, then on to the Hollentalanger haus, bit of a rest for a drink, turned left up to the Knappenhauser, took a right up to the Kreuzeck, another stop for some lovely gulasch soup...yummy, then we headed off back down to Hammersbach a trek that would normaly take me 5 1/2 hrs, but 10 hrs and 31,320 steps later, we finaly made it back, I think my husband and our friend need some more training

Sunday 23 August 2009

Beautifull sunny day, great hike with friends up to the esterberg, were they do a mean breakfast, interveiw arranged for tomorrow with the German media, but will now have to be done over the phone as there up North and I'm in the South of Germany, the filming of the making of the flag will not start till I get back, really don't want to miss that.

Saturday 22 August 2009

Arrived in Garmisch, and it's raining....what a supprise, forcast is better for tomorrow, so hopefully training can begin, now in the irish pup to watch the Man.U game

Friday 21 August 2009

leaving in the early hours of the morning, to start training again in the Bavarian Alps, for 10 days, hope the weather is a bit better this time, this I think is my last mountain training, then back to the gym and cycling for 2 months, with 10 days in Brazil renovating a school at the end of September, this will give me heat training and good work out, as it is like working on a building site, well it is a building site

Thursday 20 August 2009

The flag material has just arrive, all 16m, for 2 flags to be made, one to go to Everest, the other a copy, not sure at the moment were that will go, waiting for a reply back from Nepal, as to were the flag pole will be permanently place, is it at Base Camp, which is a glazier and unsuitable, as I have been informed, or The Holy Place, which is set a day away from base camp, which we also talked about having a special memorial monument made, and Nepal would update each year, need to find a few sponsors to fund the making of the Documentary by Stephen pennells, the cameraman on the filming of Everest ER

Wednesday 19 August 2009

So many loose ends, with one change comes many more things to sort out, hope to get all under controll and get back training at the weekend, Stephen pennells one of the associate producers of the documentary Everest ER, is hoping to come with me to film my journey with the flag, this would be great if we can make this happen, have a record of the memorial service filmed profesionaly, for the family of our fallen, really dont want it looking like some cheap home movie, but first need to find a sponsour or raise enough funds to make this happen....so loads more letters gone out this morning, and loads more still to do.....HELP...LOL

Tuesday 18 August 2009

keep crossing things off my to do list....but each day it gets longer, but loads done, flag material is now ordered and is on its way, hopefully I can get another weeks training in the Bavarian Alps, and try out the solargrilla and powergrilla kindly donated by Powertravell.com, many thanks.

Monday 17 August 2009

quite a busy day today, have another sponsor, work on the flag has begun, but only programed into the computor at the moment, flag material approved, just needs re-ordering, as 2 flags are now going to be made, one for Everest, the other a copy, so hopefully find a home for that one, for families to see, the padre will have the memorial service ready next month, need to practice how to hold the service, this will be hard to do with out crying

Saturday 15 August 2009

spent a good part of today, getting in touch with family members of our fallen, to ask if they would like to write a little message for their loved one for me to have embroidered onto the other side of the memorial flag, the response has been good, and messages are coming back, this is such an emotional journey, but one i'm pleased to be taking....going to try and relax now in the sun and have a bbq

Friday 14 August 2009

So tiered today...still so much to get sorted, flag samples arrived perfect colours, but I think will need a 3rd layer, so the embroidery doesn't show through from each side of the flag

Thursday 13 August 2009

Found a company that has the size material for the flag, just waiting on the samples, things are starting to come together, still need a camerman/woman to do some filming, as I dont want it to look like some cheap home movie

Wednesday 12 August 2009

Great meeting with Doris today, the Germany lady who is sponsoring and embroidering the flag, but also so sad, we both cried, we need alot of tisues for this, now just need to find the material big enough to make the flag, need 2m x 4m one red one blue, so many names....too many lives lost...R.I.P all

when Doris said it was an honour for her to be making the flag, I cried even more, such a lovely woman, that special person is always were you least expect to find them

Tuesday 11 August 2009

Received a cheque today for €300 from The Queens Royal Hussars, many thanks, still waiting on quite a few replies

Sunday 9 August 2009

This has got to be the worst day yet, thunder storms, and rivers running off the mountains, looks like todays hike is cancelled, last day of training before heading back up north tomorrow, as I have a appointment with the company that is making the flag, with my new design, work should begin next week, so if all works out well over the next week, I can get back down to Garmisch, for another weeks training. so much to do, so little time left.
another €250 pledged from Pete, I only went to the Irish pub to watch the footie, €750 raised, thank you Ian and Pete xx
good decision to go the Irish pub to watch the footie..Ian the owner has just pledged €500 for the Memorial flag and H4H Thank you Ian xx
The weather is not looking to good today, rained quite heavy all night, the route I was going to take I think will be quite dangerous, to go alone, so if the weather holds out a bike ride I think today, into Austria, if not then a day off and relax, at the Irish pub, and watch the football

Saturday 8 August 2009

Not feeling too bad after yesterdays hike, the hardest and longest hike yet, sat out side the little cafe admiring the view of the Kramerspitz...will not be doing that again, well not today anyway, 1st picture is of the veiw on the way up, still quite away to go, 2nd is the first part of the ridge after 2 1/2 hrs hiking 3rd is half way across the ridge as the weather started to close in, nearly turned around at this point, 4th is the final climb to the top 5th is the view of the top, on my way down, 2hr later, hard going on the knees, had to use poles for the first time.

Friday 7 August 2009

My morning didn't start off to well, cycled all the way to the bottom of the mountain, forgot my key to bike lock, do I just hide my bike in a bush and hope it's there when I get down or, ride back and get the key, well with the luck I'm having, so rode back and got the key, so lost an hour start....great

Thursday 6 August 2009

Friday 7 August 7.00 am

Training has been going well, most of it done in the rain, but looks like another sunny day, today's hike will be up the Kramerspitz hight 1982m, doesn't look that big in the picture that I have just taken, out side the little cafe were I'm having a quick tea, and update, before setting off,

Wednesday 5 August 2009

Now into the second faze of my training in the Bavarian Alps, and the sun is shinning, pictures are from my hike on Sunday 2nd Aug, picture 3 is view of the Zugspits the highest mountain in Germany, from half way up into the valley, 2nd is same view from higher up, the 1st picture was taken the same day, just as I got back into camp, the weather changed dramatically, and rained till tuesday night.

Tuesday 4 August 2009
